Majalis Group as part of Materiality – a group exhibition exploring the quality or character of being material or composed of matter.
FDM01 is a pendant designed and assembled in Copenhagen. The piece takes its name from Les Fleurs du Mal, Charles Baudelaire’s seminal poetry collection. Referencing the industrial upheavals of Baudelaire’s time, the work explores how material and form can express both poetic and critical reflection within a context of contemporary production. The lamp’s floral body draws from Art Nouveau, reintroducing organic ornamentation as a counterpoint to minimalism. Its folded steel shell and recurring quatrefoil form link decoration and structure through modular assembly. Materiality is central, not only in the contrast between soft fabric and raw steel, but in how form and substance together imply meaning beyond function.
Majalis Group is a Copenhagen-based design and art studio founded by August Hugo and Theodor Nymark. Their collaborative practice investigates the relationship between ornament, modular construction, and contemporary fabrication.
