Jost Maltha as part of Materiality – a group exhibition exploring the quality or character of being material or composed of matter.

Carved from soft mineral stone, Niche Support Structure takes its inspiration from the mechanisms of synthesis and fragmentation found in scientific practices. Abrupt cuts and newly merged connections seek to establish useful functions, creating ornate constellations as a by-product. Reflecting on a fictional ecosystem on the brink of collapse – both sustained and weakened by human intervention – questions about the ways knowledge is formed, authenticated and displayed take shape.

Stockholm-based Jost Maltha graduated with a Master’s degree from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm this Spring (Kungl. Konsthögskolan). With a background in sculpture and installation, Maltha explores spatial and material processes shaped by systems of knowledge production. He has exhibited internationally, with his most recent exhibition taking place at the exhibition space Calcio in London.
